PROLOGUE
What does a young man do when he discovers that he’s gay/homosexual/queer? His options, of course, are limited by his upbringing, his early training, his religious beliefs, and by the availability of further mano-a-mano contacts.
Some young men have been known to commit suicide. Overcome by guilt, unable to handle their difference from the norm, they give up living.
Some young men attempt to hide their true desires. They hide their sexual skeleton in the closet, and all too often end up as psychological basket cases, funneling their money into the coffers of competent (and otherwise) psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers of every stripe, and others of their ilk.
Some young men disappear from their previous lives and gravitate to urban centers such as New York, Chicago or San Francisco where the gay community is large and, generally speaking, accepted as an alternative life style.
In each of these cases, someone gets hurt. Almost always, the young man is hurt the most. He is driven from his family and friends, ostracized by the society in which he lives, and forced to either change his sexual preferences or submit to embarrassing scrutiny, reindoctrinization, and psychological analysis. Families dissolve over the issue, neighborhoods are polarized, governments are put in turmoil. And all because a guy prefers a guy.
Recently, some of these problems have been solved by laws which say that what two consenting adults do in the privacy of a home is nobody’s business but their own. Yet, even in this enlightened age, there are those who still cry ‘He made my boy become a homosexual!’ Obviously, there is a great deal of room for education as to the whys and wherefores of homosexualism.
Jim Faust discovered early on that he preferred the company of his male friends over those of his female acquaintances. In spite of his proclivities, he grew up to be a healthy, happy young man. He knew he was different, but, what the hell! He liked jacking off and being jacked-off, liked sucking cock and being sucked-off. So what?
But even Jim with his healthy outlook was pursuing that elusive butterfly called ‘Love.’ He wanted a permanent relationship, and when none developed, Jim packed up and headed for Los Angeles.
We all want love. We all want a permanent relationship with another person. Wolves and Canadian geese mate for life; human beings are the only warm-blooded animals who leave one mate for another. If a man wants to live with another man as a monogamous couple, who’s to throw the first stone?
