Foreword

In recent years the sociological and psychological aspects of homosexuality have been studied and the results presented in all forms: books; movies; plays for the theatre; magazines; television; etc.

Of all the studies made, however, few, if any, have dealt with homosexuality among adolescents and the scandals which result when boys are discovered to be queer by the other boys their own age.

This book is an attempt to fill this neglected area of study. It presents the fictionalized case history of three boys caught up in their uncontrollable lust for each other’s bodies.

From the beginning, when caught by one of their fathers down in the basement engaged in mutual masturbation, their lives are drastically changed. Thrown from their homes and forced to fend for themselves, they are determined to continue their education, but they are forced to engage in one humiliating act after another by their classmates once the word of what they are spreads throughout the school. At last they are driven to the point of making a painful decision—whether or not to give in to the pressures of society and begin a different style of living, or whether to keep up their almost impossible struggle to be accepted on equal terms with their heterosexual classmates.

The events described have been fictionalized to achieve unity, but the author has tried to present a true-to-life account, and most of the events described are based on actual case histories. The book thus shows not only the unbearable shame involved which the young male characters experience again and again, but also shows the delightfully sensuous experiences of adolescent homosexual self-discovery. The sexual scenes have been described in graphic detail. If this offends some readers the author hereby expresses his apology, but the detailed descriptions of the sex scenes were necessary because to only show the anguish endured by the three adolescent characters and not show the reasons why they endure such anguish would be meaningless in that only one side of the story would have been presented.

By the time the reader has turned the last page, it is hoped that he will have a better understanding of the problems involved in adolescent homosexuality, and it is hoped that other studies will be encouraged in this much-neglected area of sexual relationships.
