TEMPTATION
I had stripped off the wet towel and lay naked on my side, facing Colin, the sheet down around my hips in the stuffy air. Colin, who had stripped as well, was on his back, the sheet below his navel, eyes shut. Our bodies were maybe a foot apart at the torso, but once we’d been lying there a few minutes our feet seemed to gravitate toward the juncture of the bed, and they touched. Neither of us moved.
I was already painfully excited from the shower and had been excited all day in a dark sort of way, so that this sudden, casual contact at the foot set me off again savagely. On my side, facing Colin, who was breathing deeply now as though asleep, I slid my hand down in under my sheets and touched myself circumspectly and silently. I gazed more and more feverishly at Colin’s naked torso, at his bulging thighs under the damp, clinging sheet; up to his face—the moist, parted lips and the long, sleeping eyelashes.
A slight smile seemed to curl the corners of Colin’s mouth and then his eyes half opened. I was panic-stricken and closed my eyes as though asleep, but I opened them again and an eternity of seconds later he was still smiling and his eyes had begun to close once more. He turned slightly toward me so that the sheet slipped down his hip…
