But when that time finally came, Marc began to learn about successful sex fast, and that summer of his eighteenth year was a turning point he would never forget!
When he had his first man… or rather, the guy had Marc; it was hard to say which of them got his rocks off better. Homosexual activity was so different, so alien, from anything Marc had ever tried before… and it was so much more satisfying! He had gotten used to having hassles in the way of sex; fucking, ejaculating, with a partner was almost like a reward for having done everything right for a change.
So, when Marc finally met a gay guy and made it with him to their intense mutual satisfaction, it startled Marc not only because his trick was a man, but because it all seemed so simple, direct, and natural. That was what the husky young football player liked most about it—the complete lack of complications and hassles, of obstacles in the way of their physical enjoyment.
The Barrelhead was a dive, situated about twenty miles out of town on the State Highway. It was the only gay bar between the small community and the nearest city, fifty miles away. Good relations with the local deputies enabled it to stay open after hours and overlook the actual ages of its younger clientele. Anybody was welcome as long as he minded his manners.
Marc had driven past the place at least half a dozen times, speculating luridly about what went on inside. Homosexual orgies, at the very least, he was sure.
Finally, one night, he not only made the trip out to The Barrelhead but parked his car on the gravel in front of the bar. It looked like an ordinary roadside tavern, a low, ramshackle structure with a single oak door lit by an amber spotlight above it, and the huge wooden barrel that gave the place its name suspended high up near the roof from an iron rod. In spite of the relatively early hour, the parking area was filled with vehicles.
Marc sat for a long time in the car fighting impulse to go inside and check it out. He watched the door of the bar, and suddenly two young men came out, laughing, joining arms in a friendly, pleasantly drunken walk to their car. They looked quite normal, not at all like stereotyped “queers.” To hell with it, Marc told himself. It can’t be any big deal!
