FOREWORD

From Oakland in the north to San Berdoo in the south, exists a rough and ready breed of men. They go by many names—The Hell’s Angels, the Satan’s Slaves, the Conquerors, the Diablos, and any other name that implies someone who lives by his own rules, and puts up with shit from no other man.

They’re recognizable in many ways. They ride big, long, and fast bikes that make as much noise as a flight of B-52’s. They wear black leather jackets, with the backs inscribed with their fearsome names. Their strong, hairy arms are emblazoned with even more fearsome tatoos, that warn of their strength and power. And their scarred, bearded faces reveal that they are men not to be crossed.

In the outer suburbs of Los Angeles, in the hot and dusty confines of the San Fernando Valley, one such group has its headquarters. They call themselves the Devil’s Riders, and, as the biker groups go, they are as tough and fierce as any. Though, by the standard of some clubs, their number is small, they can more than hold their own in any scramble. Their reputation is well-known all along the coast, and in many places the mere whisper of the name “Devil’s Riders” is enough to strike terror into the hearts of those who have foolishly gone against them.

The Devil’s Riders are led by one of the toughest bikers who ever straddled a Harley. His name is Stud Striker, and the name fits him like a suit of armor.

Stud Striker came out of a small town in Nebraska that just didn’t prove big enough for Stud to do the things he knew he had to do. So he went to L.A., where he gathered around him a group of men so tough that only a man as forceful as Striker could be their leader.

Among them were Tex, Weird Billy, Hannibal, Dillinger and Rollerball, each one big and strong, each one a match for ten or fifteen ordinary men. As his second in command, Stud took Big Boy, a real giant in every sense of the word. Together, Stud and Big Boy led their band in forays up and down the coast, proving to themselves and the world that they could, and would, live by their own rules.

One day, at the beginning of a long and hot summer, Stud’s brother, Rocky, also found that small town in Nebraska to be too small for him. He idolized his older brother and his hard and free life. So he came out to California to follow in his footsteps.

That’s when all hell broke loose.
