Owen wanted the freedom of the secret place, the agent told him he rode naked through the thick wood covered trails then bathed in the lake just the way the trail drivers had years before.
He wanted to feel the cool air on his naked body and spend his stay free from the restrictions life had placed upon him. Owen wanted to let it all hang out for two full weeks.
The sign in front of the reservation wasn’t more than twelve inches and anyone could miss it if they weren’t keeping a peeled eye. He pulled past the front gate then slowly made his way to the main office.
It wasn’t at all like he expected. No tee pee’s, no totem poles. He imagined Indians roaming the grounds wearing authentic feather headdresses and carrying tomahawks, but what he saw was one large black man wearing a white cowboy hat standing next to the barn wearing an apron.
“Howdy,” the man said, as Owen stepped from his car.
