INTRODUCTION
Survival of the species has long been recognized as a driving force existing within man and animals. Nowhere is this instinct more often made apparent than in those drives which compel man to bear and rear children. And while now, in this over-populated age, our species is actually more threatened by continual propagation than by any stemming of it, there are still those of us driven not only to reproduce but who try, to the best of our efforts, to mold our offspring in our own exact image.
The following novel is the story of two brothers: one forced into following in the butch, macho role assigned him by his father; another better able to discover and explore his own sexuality at a more leisurely pace. It is the story of people who sometimes come to confuse masculinity with feats of physical skill and daring which, in the final analysis, have nothing whatsoever to do with the definition of a real man.
It is a story of brothers drawn to each other in a way that goes a bit beyond the more “normally accepted” fraternal relationships: brothers who need an unfortunate family crises to let themselves realize that certain archaic taboos and out-of-date standards of living have really very little to do with the real world and the most effective ways of dealing with their living in it.
