Captain Alan Steele ran a taut, but happy ship. To a man, his gay buccaneers loved their leader, as well as one another. Their constant nakedness was a joy to all, except their enemies, who were shocked to immobility by the nude raiding parties. In his book, The Sexually Promiscuous Male, Benjamin Morse, M.D., states: “On the borders of what we rather smugly call the ‘Normal World’—because it is our world—of sex, there impinges the twilight world of the homosexual. There, in shadows and dim light, millions of human beings fulfill their sexual destinies, happily or otherwise. Choosing to ignore the biological commandment to be fruitful and multiply, they intertwine in love forbidden by law, forbidden by custom, forbidden by popular opinion.” Steele, the Golden Devil, carried out a bloody vendetta against those who would persecute his kind. And when they tired of the fighting, Alan and his men sought refuge from the nonsense of civilization on an island where their special kind of love could prevail.
