Without a word, Ricky joined them in bed, trying to form a trio. At this, Robin sat up and Ron disengaged himself from his loins.
“What’s the matter?” Ricky said, “Can’t I play?”
“It’s kind of a thing between us,” Robin said. “No offense, Ricky, but if you don’t mind, we…”
“You’ve got a hell of a nerve taking this kid in my mother’s bed and trying to kick me out. Wouldn’t it be just great to have her come home and catch you two in her bed?”
“Would it be any better if she found the three of us?” Robin asked.
“Ron,” Ricky said, “would you mind if I talked to Robin along for a moment?” Ron said he would not mind and went into Mrs. Hanson’s bathroom.
Robin had seen enough the preceding night to convince him that Ricky, for all his good looks and wealth, was not the kind of lover he was looking for. Ron, with his gentle sweetness coupled with a passionate sexuality that was far removed from the mere animalism of Ricky, was.
But Ricky insisted that they could “make it together,” promised that he would be faithful to Robin if he insisted, though he didn’t mind if Robin found a little activity outside, and he didn’t understand why he should object to his doing so either.
