Foreword
Larry served me several drinks as we talked. I passed off most of his questions, answering evasively; and I could see that his inability to pump me for direct information was beginning to provoke him.
“Have you ever been loved by a man?” he asked suddenly.
His question startled me, but I lost no time in replying, “Hell, no! And I don’t want to be, if that’s what you’re leading up to.”
“But you did watch a couple of our mutual friends doing it” It was a statement, not a question.
I decided some of these homos were like a bunch of old hens telling one another about their affairs. And probably about other things, too.
More people than I wanted to already knew I was a private detective. Some of them knew about the ring of homosexual pickpockets. Probably a select few knew about the Ming dynasty jade figurine, worth a hundred thousand dollars, that was floating around somewhere. I’d have to be careful.
I got up to leave, but suddenly my exit was blocked by two other men coming out of the bedroom.
“What’s this?” I said, annoyed.
“My pals,” Larry said casually.
I stared at the newcomers, aware of the glint of anticipation in their eyes. “I suppose you’re going to try and beat me up?” I said in a matter of fact tone. “It’s been tried before, not too successfully.”
“Heavens no, my darling man,” Larry cooed. “We’re going to rape you…”
