Foreword
The Old West has been portrayed and re-portrayed from Hollywood to History books from the era of the dime novels (coinciding with the last days of that frontier) to the present, and, in fact, has snowballed in popularity in the past year to now.
Little, however, of what has been portrayed has been accurate, with the exception of a few books of ethnic concern such as Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee, an excellent factual history and account of white man’s expansion and cruel mistreatment of the Oglala Sioux for reasons based almost solely on greed for land and resources.
Two other areas of omission and distortion in our heritage and history concerned the role of Black Americans in the Old West (they were some of the original cowboys, thank you History and Hollywood) and the role of sex in a hostile environment and lawless open territory, which this following tale is all about.
Jason, a loner and trapper, always following the seasons and game, needs something in his life, and he is afraid to face what that need is: Love of another man. It is his friends pleasure and duty, Indian and White alike to help him now, for his happiness and future are tied inexorably to his ability to face his nature like a man.

Synopsis by Eric Boyd
Jason is a loner. The young trapper’s annual trip to Fort Union to sell pelts is even more contact than he can handle. Especially when he catches himself gawking at another young guy at the saloon who returns his stare. Panicked, he flees to the local Indian camp, where his friend Crazy Coyote diagnoses his problem. Back in the wild, he meets another Indian named Three Legs, who lets him sample his… third leg. But he knows it’s love when he encounters Walks Alone. The two plan a steamy winter together when Walks Alone is kidnapped by Ben Douver and his gang of outlaws. Jason is off to the rescue, and along the way meets a fellow trapper, John, who makes the hunt a lot more fun. But even with Walks Alone rescued, it’s clear the Great Spirit is calling him. Heartbroken and alone again, Jason returns to Fort Union, only to meet the guy he’d stared at the previous year!
