INTRODUCTION

BEAT IT, KID!

A Collection of Short Stories By Peter Randolph

“Oh, you can’t imagine how much I sympathize with you! I do because I realize how much you want a man. Well—so do I!”

Only Peter Randolph could take a shipwrecked (horny) man and woman and place them on a deserted island for months on end and have the woman, almost one year later, saying how much she wanted a man even if he were “… deaf, dumb, and blind, just so long as he had a little spirit.”

Randolph brings together nine of the shortest gay stories and presents the reader with humor that makes you “bust-a-gut” laughing at the ironic situations his characters get into.

In the story “You Will Hurt Me,” Randolph throws one of the most surprising endings found in any short story. “The Successor” involves a kept boy who leaves his supporter and finds success with another. However, Randolph turns the tables and the hilarity of the twisted situation actually makes one wonder. The reader of Randolph’s short stories will travel within the United States, across the oceans to France and Denmark, and even in a space rocket. In Greece a handsome Triton rises from the Aegean Sea and finds a lover. “Good Old George” will make you come unglued at the seams. George was overly “seedy,” and had taken the “most dilapidated, fagged-out faggot” to his room. Of George’s accomplice, Randolph says, “The fagged-out faggot peeped over the bags under his eyes, then merely rolled off the other side of the bed onto the floor. It wasn’t as good as fainting, but it was better than nothing.”

Some of his characters find handsome lovers, some find none, and some, instead of scraping the bottom of the barrel, as Randolph says, “go under” the barrel to discover a peace of mind.

Unequaled in gay humor, Randolph’s BEAT IT, KID! is here to be read and enjoyed.
