And once past this arbitrary landmark, Dick’s progress assumed a new direction. Although he never ceased to work as he always had for the firm of Appletree and Plumb, he began taking on some evening jobs as host and bartender for private parties. He did this only on weekends, and only in the homes of the gentlemen who hired him. Along with his abilities as a lover, Dick had developed a personality that made him popular even with those to whom his physical glory would be forever denied. Thus, by the time he reached the point in life where circumstances forced an abrupt and unexpected change, the huge, handsome construction worker had developed his talents to their fullest extent.
