Foreword

Slave and master relationships are not relegated to sexual or deviant situations. Every action and activity that men are involved in has the elements of domination and subservience. These are natural components which only become exaggerated or simulated by the choice of the individuals involved.

Frequently the roles chosen to be played and embraced are reflections of the needs or circumstances in the lives of the participating individuals. Pressures of the real world can fade away in the chosen roles that are frequently taken very seriously.

The shy or oppressed individual can take further refuge and reinforce his self-images by taking the bottom or slave or subservient roles. Or, he can change his circumstances, temporarily at least, by becoming very involved with the dominating, active roles in the sexual activities.

Men who are naturally dominating or involved in aggressive jobs frequently need the release and change of pace that getting totally involved in slave and serving activities can provide. More frequently, aggressive men transfer this aggression to their sexual roles and intensify it in their master role playing.

These psychological ingredients are complex and often contradicting and are subject to many new and changing theories. However, it is possible and probable that these theories can be often totally dismissed. A simple and true observation is that often these roles and sexual games are interchangeable and are just a choice which feels good or appropriate at the time. Nothing more, or nothing less.
