INTRODUCTION
We, the publishers, feel we must be completely honest with you before you read this book. We know it has great social and psychological importance, for it studies, in fictional form, the mind of a man who deviates from the norm of sexuality we have today—even beyond homosexuality. In the tradition of The Story Of O and the works of the Marquis De Sade and William Burroughs, this book deals with sadomasochism, and the thoughts, motivations, guilt feelings and even joy that is associated with the subject. It is a hard subject to approach, and we find that since David Griffon has approached it in such a highly introspective and educational way, we have no choice but to offer it to you. It is an important and highly valuable book.
The warning is this: sadomasochism, from the works of Freud through the exhaustive study of Kraft-Ebing, even to today’s fine Masters and Johnson reports and findings, is a subject which many readers find offensive. The author here has not held back in his honest treatment of the subject—to have done so would have been to cheapen his study.
He has written of the sexual affairs connected with such deviate groups as sado-masochists, but, as we said earlier, with great introspection and insight. The reader who will be offended by reading of such people, of such scenes, will have to pass this book by.
Ask Ol’ Buddy is a special book, for special interest. And if you have that interest in this kind of sociological study, then you will find the book highly rewarding on many levels.
