Conservative States Are Fucking With Pride1 minutes of an awesome read

Well, here’s some bullshit. While we’re planning our Pride outfits and figuring out which parties to hit, Republican-led states are showing us exactly why Pride is still incredibly important.

In Alabama, Governor Kay Ivey declared it “strong families month” to promote Father’s Day (something Hommi celebrates too, obviously), apparently forgetting that plenty of LGBTQ+ families have two fathers or no fathers at all. She said, “Homes led by a father and mother provide children with the structure and discipline necessary to succeed throughout life.” Really? Don’t get me wrong, we’re all about DILFs here, but has she ever met the kids of lesbian couples? 

This isn’t just some isolated incident either. Multiple conservative states are pushing similar rebrands – calling it “nuclear family month” or “fidelity month” instead of Pride. It’s part of the escalating attacks on our rights under the Trump regime–which has been targeting our trans brothers and sisters wicked hard.

Gallup polls show that after two decades of growing support for LGBTQ+ rights, public attitudes are actually starting to shift backward. Why is this still even a question?

These states are using the month that commemorates the Stonewall uprising to push their shitty, homophobic agenda. While cities across America are celebrating with parades and festivals, conservative politicians (state and federal) are literally trying to erase us.

Fuck that. Pride isn’t going anywhere just because some governors want to play make-believe. If anything, this just proves why we still need Pride month.
