Discrimination, in spite of what our juridical and enforcement systems say, is very much a backbone of American business. With all the emphasis and legislation on civil rights and discrimination there is still the type of reactionary behavior toward anyone not conforming to the “standard”—that standard being whatever the person in authority, be it employer, judge, cop, whatever, deems pleasing or proper to that authority’s personal standards.
Recently a hullabaloo was raised about homosexuals in service, both male Gay and lesbian, and with their typical disregard for the letter of the law and spirit of the Constitution, the armed services involved have dropped admitted homosexuals like hot potatoes.
In this story, we see what happens when gays come up against the business establishment, are put down, and the steps they take to overcome the “stacked deck” being dealt them. It is a quite frankly sexual novel, yet one that poses many deep questions concerning rights—the way the Establishment says one thing, yet deals differently when confronted with the reality.
