Lunch had been a really long shift today, and Joey was tired, very glad that he was off in less than fifteen minutes. He would serve this last, lone guy in the truckers’ bay and then he’d be off.
Joey could sense the man watching him carefully, and the boy stared back openly, liking the sandy hair and broad, open features he saw. Joey gave him a big grin as he set down the menu and filled his coffee cup, saying, “Good afternoon, sir. I don’t think I’ve seen you around here before. Are you new on this run?”
“I’m an old trucker,” Erling grinned, “but I’ve never been in this area before, no.”
Erling looked at the boy again over the top of his menu. “You have something to say to me?” he asked. He liked the fact that the boy’s big basket came just above the level of the formica counter top, almost resting on it as Joey adjusted the knives and forks.
“No, well, not yet, at least. It’s just that it’s getting almost past lunch time, you know, and I think the chef wants to pack it up…” Joey had been in the business too long not to know when he was being considered as the most interesting thing on the menu, and he was beginning to warm to the role right now. He was tired, sure, but this trucker was a little bit different than the usual guys who wheeled into the Easy Rest and found Joey’s sexy ass to their obvious liking. Joey liked the way the man’s thick mat of chest hair curled above the open neck of his plaid shirt. The guy was a hunk.
