Foreword
When Phil sends his handsome young lover off to New York to get the fantasies of a theatrical career out of his blood, he can’t help but remember his own excitement some ten years earlier, when he had been the one discovering Manhattan’s many fascinations, both theatrical and sexual.
He and his lover Dan had explored the city and themselves until the day when, in a moment of frustration, he had offered to let a theatrical producer seduce him in return for a theatrical job-any sort of even menial backstage task They had fought violently, and he had packed hastily and left Dan.
When he took a job in a Village restaurant, he found that submitting to the manager’s sexual demands was a key condition to getting the job. Then the sadistic young busboys trapped him in the dressing room, and forced him to bow to their frantic sexual advances.
Later, he is further degraded when, after his wallet is stolen, he must accept a wily customer’s amorous advances in return for the cash needed to eat and pay his rent.
As the summer drew to a close, he and Dan were reunited briefly, but after he is critically injured in a crash that kills his parents, Dan gently tells them that he must return to school, and that they must forget their close relationship.
