FOREWORD

“The only thing worse than not getting what you want—is getting it.”

Was it George Bernard Shaw who said that? No matter. Whoever it was knew whereof he spoke. It’s true. If you want enough, and want it bad enough, seriously enough, you’ll probably find a way to get it. But it costs. It’s expensive; sometimes more than it’s worth, unless the wanting and the desiring and the needing go deep enough, are enough part of your bone and marrow. Wanting is a need. Needs are to be fulfilled. Ambition and need and energy can take us far, and can take from us much in repayment.

Eric Jenssen wanted more than he had, more than he had ever known, more than he knew he could desire. His need drove him from the comfort and familiarity of family, friends, home, security, to a path only he could follow, a destination even he couldn’t know.

But, no matter there, either. Not by any conscious decision or choice, led by the solitary drummer inside his head, audible only to him, he went his way, seeking the life for which he was destined, unaware and uncaring the cost his wayward independence would eventually extract.

Barter is a system of exchange as old as mankind, fair exchange for services or goods rendered and/or received. But, where does one draw the line beyond which fair becomes unfair, overcharge, usury? How much is one required to give up for success, for recognition, for riches? Must one surrender bits and pieces of himself in order to remain among the favored ranks, those deep, inner things that make him an individual, a person, a human being? Must one, in order to be considered by the world around him, a success, alter himself, all the way down to the basic concepts of becoming something diametrically opposed to the reality that is his basic self?

A quandary to be considered before those first irreversible steps are taken. Sadly for Eric Jenssen, he didn’t consider consequences or alternatives before jumping into life with both feet, willing to accept anything that was required of him in order to get the things he wanted—or thought he wanted.

    Synopsis by Eric Boyd
Eric Jenssen was the youngest of five boys, and the one with the biggest dick by far. His brothers made him aware of this even before he knew what to do with the prize nature had granted him. His oldest brother Carl was the first to show him what he had to offer others and what it could bring him in return. But Carl, as with all his older brothers, eventually married and brought their games to an end. So, at twenty-four, Eric finally sets off on his own as well—to Hollywood. There he soon finds success in TV production even if success in bed seems to elude him. There are plenty of men he lusts after, but he doubts his appeal. And he’d certainly never be interested in his boss, Nugget Stirling, the homophobe. Or maybe Nugget just isn’t sure of what he actually wants, either!
