Foreword
Prison life can be rough. Men alone, no women, much idle time—all these lead to problems as smouldering angers and passions receive undue attention for lack of anything more constructive to take the edge off of them. In the “Joint” it is worst; on road camps, prison farms and honor camps, though, at least there is the outdoors and some constructive work.

Buck Ransom is the youngest Warden in his prison’s history. Others assume his sacrifice of a romantic life has to do with his devotion to his job.
