FOREWORD
Most of us understand an appeal to reason. Most men are rational most of the time and such an appeal usually is given the attention it deserves. But not all humans are rational. This is a story about one of them, an inmate at a mental hospital, put there because he kills, without provocation. He is one of the exceptions to the rule. No reasoning can stop him from doing what he wants to do. No argument, regardless how well spoken, how logical, will persuade such a person from committing the acts he intends.
This story is about a love that is born and grows in the tense atmosphere of a small community during a period in which a lunatic has escaped from a local mental hospital. While terror stalks the street, plunging all young men into danger, Pete and Jon meet and fall into love. But they are separated and both fear for the life of the other.
The story ends with a tense scene where the lovers are re-united, only to be held by the schizoid mental case and forced to perform acts against their will.
The tension created by the multiple murders committed by the escapee acts as a catalyst, drawing the two young men closer and closer to one another. The intensity of their love is not diminished by the unreasoning fear that envelopes everyone in the vicinity, rather it is likewise intensified. Their love, like the escape of the insane killer, culminates in a torrid scene of lust and depravity.
