Universality of Homosexuality

As far back as the beginning of recorded human history, evidence indicates homosexuality has always existed. Cutting across national, regional, religious and sociological differences; homosexuality has always surfaced and been practiced to different extents in every civilization, but with varying shades of approval.

Among certain ancient civilizations, the male organ or “Phallic Worship” as they called it, elevated the male penis to a deity. And then came the Victorian Era, when a naked piano leg was considered too sexy and had to be covered, illustrating morality in constant flux. What is moral one moment might be denounced as immoral the next.

Then there is the account of sensual David of Bible times. David got such a crush on Jonathan that he lay in the field and kissed him until the record reveals that they exceeded, no doubt meaning until they achieved a violent orgasm. Capping their orgasm, David declared their love “exceedeth that of a woman.”

In the great city of Babylon some 3,000 years ago, male-male sex was practiced. Coming across the plains, the great tower of Babel could be seen from far away. Ninety foot high walls of huge thickness emphasized the might and power of the city’s famed ruler, the great Nebuchadnezzar. The rectangular city was almost sixteen square miles. Here lavish parties and sexual orgies were conducted on a sumptuous scale. We find evidence of homosexuality in Assyria and Babylonia from the Codex Hamurabi. In Babylon, where the family unit was respected, both male and female prostitution flourished. The sexual organs were worshipped and the phallus considered a stirring symbol of goodness, greatness and beauty.

In Egypt, from writings on papyrus, comes proof of homosexuality dating back some four thousand years. These sex acts were linked with the gods Horus and Set. Masculine beauty was greatly honored and there is no evidence they considered homosexuality anything to criticize…
