Dave Jackson knew he had to get some action or go stir-crazy. It had been a mistake for him to let his dad talk him into going to Uncle Ed’s Indiana farm, when all he’d wanted to do was goof off in the Loop and cruise around for sweet young cherry. But Dad had thrown in the bait of a new motorbike, and Dave knew he didn’t have the bread for anything like that on his own, and he wanted the bike, so he’d agreed to try a month. He knew what Dad had in mind; Dad was hot to trot with a redhaired widow, Mrs. Clarabelle Davies, in her mid-thirties, who ran a candy shop down the block. Well, it was just as well; if there was one thing Dave didn’t want to do, it was be anywhere around billing and cooing and Dad’s trying to make out, even with a widow. Ugh — the whole idea made him want to puke. The worst thing was, if Dad did marry Clarabelle Davies, his own freedom was going to be hampered in a big way. Women had a hound-dog’s sense of detection, and Dave was damned if he’d let a snoopy broad find out that he was the least bit gay. Dad didn’t know it and wasn’t going to.
