FOREWORD

“Beauty is as beauty does.” How often have we all heard that in response to asking how we look? “Never judge a book by its cover.” And that one when our appraisal of an acquaintance or an opportunity is being questioned.

We come to expect that the surface appearance of a thing, or a person, expresses something of that thing’s—or that person’s—inner reality.

Not always so, unfortunately, so that it wiser, generally, to accept the second motto in the formation of our opinions and relationships. The beautiful exterior doesn’t always compare favorably with the inner being. So it is probably wise to cut into the beautiful, lush peach before biting into the wormy meat of that matter. We’ve all seen or met the ravishing beauty who appears irresistible, until the gruff voice offers insight to the ugliness of the mind and heart.

The beautiful face, the flawless body, the perfect sex organs, the titillating sensuality of attractive flesh, can make fools of us, can catch us up in danger during unguarded moments of loneliness or passion’s needs. The book is judged by its cover, or at least by its wrappings and trappings. Beauty is as beauty does, because the surface attracts us, compels us, hypnotizes us by its very beauty, leading us into hazards that, normally, under less erotic circumstances, in control of our senses, we would studiously avoid.

Even the brightest, most cautious of us has been led into foolish risk by the teasing smile, the insinuating glance, and fortunately for most of us, it usually works out all right, the danger is transitory, minor, just enough to give an extra zest to the occasion. Sometimes, however, the pursuit of beauty can be disastrous, as this book will show, in that a radiantly angelic face and the body of Adonis can sometimes, infrequently it must be hoped, be a Satanic lure.

Even the wisest and most experienced among us can make the possibly fatal mistake of overlooking the old adages we should keep in mind, and most especially when the glands begin to jangle, when the senses want to take control of good sense, when the sight of an exciting body, a straining basket, perfect balloon buns, urge us to carelessness and risky adventure that may end fatally…
