Foreword

Author P.M. Bennett’s works have successively covered two areas of social injustice and human rights, and his character’s exciting and often dangerous struggles to overcome those inequities: Gay rights, and the plight of the American Indian, is yet another facet of Gay love and a young brave’s attempts to find himself and accept life and live, love, and grow.

Halfbreed (HIS69-260) covered Johnny’s first sexual experiences and also his mistreatment at the hands of white men. Now Johnny has chosen to go on with life, and rather than try to beat the system, to work toward social and political change through education… and as a teacher, he now encounters David, an intense young Indian of the Kiowa tribe, and a man in every virile sense. Synopsis by Eric Boyd
The sequel to HIS-260 finds Johnny Larson picking up the pieces after the death of his lover Dave. Now teaching at a university, not even the welcome attentions of his student Tomar, a star on the college’s wrestling squad can get him out of his funk. Heading out on a late-night walk, Johnny encounters first a touched young man who sets him off on a new path where he then encounters David Fremont, a stunning young half-breed hustler who is on a quest to recover his real name, Sunbird. Johnny hears David’s life story—of being raised by his grandfather; of the vision quest where he learns his true proclivities from two white campers and earns his name. Then, alone at sixteen, he tells of the man who robbed him of his name and his experiences in juvenile detention. At the end of the tale, Johnny finds his purpose—convincing Sunbird that he never really lost his name.
