One bright sunny afternoon in Venice, California, Toby Cooper, the young blond teenager who is the central character in Tom Hardy’s latest novel, sets out hitchhiking for the beach. Toby’s a horny young stud who thinks he knows all about sex but once he takes a ride with Jack and Joe, a couple of leather studs with a black van that they use as “a kind of workshop,” he finds out that there’s a lot more to sex than he ever dreamed. And Toby’s not the only one in for some surprises. A gang of older high school bullies try to bust his ass and end up with just what they deserve. Add to that a Marine uncle with some recruit-training notions of his own, and you know you’ve got to read it to believe it!
When Tom dropped by to deliver this latest manuscript, we asked him if it was a true story. He just sort of grinned and said, “Well, everything’s true somewhere, sometime, don’t you think?” Then he ambled out to the parking lot, climbed into his black van and drove off!

High school freshman Toby Cooper is the epitome of a tanned, blond California teen. But when he gets picked up on his way to the beach by Jack and Joe in their black van he gets an afternoon he never imagined with the older studs. Back home, he catches his neighbor Danny jacking off. The surly older teen who’d always frightened Toby now enthralls him with his dark hair and muscles. But Danny won’t reciprocate. It does get Danny thinking of his uncle Roy, though, and when he was fourteen and Roy was back from Marine boot camp. That had been fun and exciting! Maybe he and Toby could do something like that? But when he instead tricks the boy into a cruel scene with four teen hoods, it takes Jack and Joe to rescue Toby and teach Danny the lessons Roy had only begun. With Toby and Danny now best buddies, the only thing missing is a return visit from Uncle Roy!
