FOREWORD

There must be a real Gaylord Le Claire in this world, and to that person this book is dedicated.

Written with deep sensitivity and understanding, MAYBE—TOMORROW explores the inner thought processes of a youth, Gaylord Le Claire, who finds himself developing into a homosexual.

As we first meet Gaylord, he doesn’t realize why he is unlike anyone else he knows; why he has longings to be near a high school friend, Bob Blake; why he wishes he were a girl. His unhappiness is intensified by the cruelty of his school friends, who realize before he does what he is and what it means.

Bob seems to “want” him, but at the same time doesn’t satisfy Gay mentally nor seem to be true to him. It is only after Gay has been on a trip to New Orleans, where he has met others like himself, that Bob, torn and twisted by the jealousy he feels for people Gay has met while away, admits to Gay that he loves him, and that he wishes them to be together.

Mr. Little has taken a “hushhush” topic and woven it into a sincere, candid book. There are those who may be shocked at the subject matter, but for the intelligent reader, MAYBE—TOMORROW will emerge as a sensitive, mature study of a situation increasingly prevalent in today’s complex, tangled skein of living.
