FOREWORD
HARRY’S FARE AND OTHER STORIES is the first volume in a projected series of “Dorian Vignettes” which will bring to readers the work of little-known or previously unpublished young writers who dare to look into the by-ways of life and love among homosexuals.
The eight stories in this volume represent as great a variety in characterizations and situations as the background of the people who wrote them. If any one theme pervades this collection, it is the call for understanding and acceptance of the fact that these “different” people have as much right to love and live as anyone else.
The stories were written by a variety of relatively unknown young writers: a housewife, a teacher, a rancher, a model and an artist are among them. Not all the characters and situations they portray are representative of the ideal, to say the least. But they do tell about things and people that could be very real, although they are presented here in a fictional context.
Harry, the father and central figure in the leading story, is probably completely unaware of the high latent homosexual potential in his own makeup. Likewise the roguish hero of “That’s One Thing I’ll Never Do” has yet to face himself for what he really is.
