Beau concluded the tour of his quarters by showing Corky where the bathroom was. From the bedroom, he watched the boy strip. As he showered, Beau laid out clean clothes on the chest of drawers. Soon it would be time to start supper for the men.
Under the spray, Corky called out, “Those guys are something else. Are they always that wild?”
“I reckon they have to let off steam when the hunting’s bad,” Beau replied.
“Every last one of them has the same thing on his mind,” Corky said stepping out on the rug on the center of the tile floor, drying off. “Everything is capital S-E-X.”
Beau grinned. “They come here to get away from it all. To be free,” he said sitting naked on the bed, drawing on his socks, watching Corky dry his young body.
“They’re sure free with their hands, that’s no lie,” Corky laughed.
Beau, envying the boy his extreme youth and innocence, caressed him across the way with his eyes. “Did they try to start anything with you?” he asked Corky.
Walking naked toward the bed with his clothes under his arm, Corky replied, “No, I guess not really. But they were talking about it.”
“I reckon you’re grown enough to know what it’s all about,” Beau said putting his arms into a flannel pullover shirt.
“I reckon,” Corky said grinning. He watched Beau dress, his eyes riveted on his nakedness below the waist. “I was wondering something, Beau. Does my job include fooling around with the hunters?” His eyes were bright, boyish, innocent and yet knowledgeable enough. His naked body in the soft light of the room was manly and boyish at the same time.
