FOREWORD
“Now, the thing is, you don’t seem to be getting the idea,” said Monk, as he gripped the handle of the whip, “and this is pissing the fuck out of me.”
“I… fuck…” groaned the man, “you bastards. You’re both dead men. You hear me? You’re both dead men.”
The words were scarcely audible.
Monk looked over at Dick. Dick was cool and calm, his black skin contrasting perfectly with his white suit. Monk’s shiny bald dome and manic expression was a pleasure to watch. For a white boy, he did all right.
“Guess he ain’t getting the idea,” said Dick. “I know. He keeps saying we’re dead men. I feel all right. How about you?”
“Feel pretty good.”
“Figured. Maybe he’s the dead man.”
“Not yet.”
“He gonna be, he don’t start answering our questions, though, right?”
“Yep,” said Dick.
“Okay, turkey, you hear that. It’s YOU’S the dead man.”
And then Monk began to carefully remove the skin from his naked back and buttocks with carefully placed strokes with the whip.
