Foreword

Leo Sawyer lives in a major west coast city, where he works as a free-lance model. Twenty-eight years old, blond, green-eyed, an exercise nut who works out in a gym three days a week, plays a lot of tennis, loves disco and dancing, his first love, so he tells us, is observing the world around him, frequently through high-power binoculars (of which he has a fair-sized collection), and telescope.

This manuscript, which we recently received, is a random gathering of those observations, in no chronological sequence, but rather categorized by use of sequential alignment determined by the floors of an apartment hotel directly and delightfully in his line of vision.

Leo Sawyer lives on the seventh floor of a modern glass-and-steel apartment building, across the street from a park, which in itself offers nearly limitless opportunity to exercise his visual pleasures. He tells us that the dark of night, and even sometimes the noonday sun, as well, present erotic views of life that can be surprising and orgasmic. On the opposite side of Leo Sawyer’s park, however, is a twelve story hotel, always busy with transient opportunity for his alert eyes, and from various things he has seen, Sawyer has compiled copious notes, and a fair collection of photographs, with the help of telephoto lensed camera.

VOYEUR is a sampling of Leo Sawyer’s experiences in pursuing hours of pleasant observation, some random and haphazard, moments of free time put to use in watching what goes on in the privacy of enclosed rooms, fevered, frenzied moments of passion so high that caution is flung to the winds, open curtains forgotten, untended, the needs of the moment more important than the possibility of being seen by unknown eyes.

So, Leo Sawyer has watched windows, and learned secrets of strangers he will never know, who will never know him, but has gained an intimacy few of us ever achieve with even our most intimate and long-time friends.

Chapter headings are taken from the various floors of the apartment-hotel, beginning at the bottom and working to the top, not in the sequence in which they happened, but chosen from the most interesting occupants of various rooms and suites on each floor, over a period of time.

Mister Sawyer tells us that sometimes there are long, dry spells during which nothing of interest happens, and sometimes the subject of his observations are cautious beyond a certain point and after an exciting build-up, draperies are suddenly and frustratingly drawn at crucial points of developing relationships.

However, we enjoyed the vignettes offered, and hope that you, the reader, will enjoy them too.
