FOREWORD
The construction trade, as in professional sports, has traditionally been the bulwark of the he-man. It has been the stamping ground for the hard-working, beer-swilling brute, who needs nothing more than his brawn to succeed. He takes his sport where he chooses, his women when and where he wants, and if there is anything that thoroughly revolts him, it’s a queer.
And yet, even here, the closets are beginning to open, the courageous are starting to wave their banners, the he-man is proving that sexual preferences do not make the man. Muscle and guts is what it takes to be a construction worker, a football player, or a hard working man of any kind. The preference of male-male sex does not make him a weakling, a fairy, a ‘fem’ or anything else, it merely states that he is man enough to enjoy what he wants without intimidation. And isn’t that what being a he-man is all about?
This is the story of a young man, doing his best to emerge from the Union Hall in the heavy construction trade. How he might suffer the degradation and hatred of fellow workers.
It is basically a true story—as true as the fact that not all gays are interior decorators and flower arrangers.
