He double checked the address he had written

down with trembling hand for the fiftieth time since pulling up to the address.

The number was already committed to his mem-ory, yet he couldn’t help looking one more time. As if looking could help to insure that this would be the right time, and the right place.

He seemed as a man in a trance as he left his car behind. Stepping silently through the lobby of the building on his way to the elevators.

His heart was thudding heavily in his chest as the cage rose higher and higher. Going non-stop to the penthouse level.

Brent could only hear the rush of his own blood as he walked down the seemingly endless hallway. The man was beginning to think that his heart was going to burst right out of his chest and fly away before he ever got to that door at the end of the corridor.

It was still nothing compared to the hammering in his chest as he knocked on the door.

Fear suddenly gripped him, and Brent almost bolted.

Wanting to run down the hall, running to get away.

He was about ready to give in to that strange feeling when the door know rattled. His stomach twisting into knots as he heard the lock being undone. The door swung open, and Brent’s heart stopped.
